There’s a temporary employee in our maintenance department. I’ve known him for as long as I’ve had my job. I didn’t know until last week that he does mechanic work out of his garage. He heard the squeaky brakes on my work truck. The truck is 4 years old with 40,000 miles on it & they’ve done that since we bought it brand new. He said, “I’ll change those brakes for you. $25 per axle if you get the parts.”

A light bulb went on in my head. I asked him to do the front brakes on MY truck. It’s been 4 years since they have been replaced & the pedal just started getting spongey again. I figured it was the front brakes since I had the back ones done a few months ago. He said, “Yes! I’ll take it home at lunch & have it back by the end of the hour.”

I asked around if he was trustworthy & many people have been happy with his work … he’s been doing it for years.

(He calls himself Midnight Mechanic because before he got laid off from his other job, he’d always do the work at night.)

So … I have new front brakes at $40 for the cost of parts and $25 to pay him. Waaaaaay less than most repairs I’ve had on my truck the past year-ish. He also saw all of the rust-through under my doors. He can fix that too!
